We still can’t quite believe it either but our little country house, nestled away overlooking the Douglas Valley in Standish has been crowned the Best Wedding Venue (Town or City) at the 2017 Wedding Industry Awards.
We were over the moon back in November to win double awards at the regional North West finals for Best Venue and Best Event Team but to pick up the NATIONAL award is a dream come true for the whole team.
I headed down to a glittering ceremony at London’s Cafe de Paris nightclub with around 200 other nervous hopefuls, each looking for a place in one of the 26 categories awarded on the night.
The Best Event Team award came first which we were shortlisted for, and we didn’t win the national award but remain the North West winners. At the time I was just enjoying a child-free evening in the big smoke, taking full advantage of enjoying a French martini on a school night. The atmosphere was amazing, the people and crowd were likeminded and full of energy and I was enjoying the ambience and the excitement for everyone else.
When it came to the Best Wedding Venue award, we were against some incredible UK venues and so to hear our name called as the winner floored me! (You can see it in my “I’m not really ready to pose for this as it’s not sunk in yet” smile on the photo as I accepted the award.
Considering we only entered the awards with two weeks to go, and we were unsure as to even go for it, thinking we wouldn’t stand a chance against the castles and big name venues we still can’t quite believe it.
We could not have done it without the brides and grooms who wed at Ashfield between October 2015 and October 2016. They were eligible to vote and voted us out of 10 in a variety of categories including flexibility and range of options, value for money, excellent customer service and quality.
We were also recognised for leading and setting trends, rather than following. We love to go against the grain and as a family-run independent business we do have such freedom to be able to incorporate new, quirky and creative ideas into our weddings. We have never been about profit, we have always been about people and it is a wonderful feeling to be officially recognised and honoured for that in the Wedding Industry Awards.
We are closed for renovations in January (we like to keep our stylish country house up to date so watch our social media feeds for hints of what we have been up to). Our next open evening is on Thursday, February 9th. Please do pop along and see what the UK’s Best Wedding Venue, Ashfield House has to offer. (It’s going to take a while to get used to saying that!).
